One afternoon in a little blue cottage, there lived an ignorant girl who stomped her black boots and screamed I want! I want! Her name was Grumpy Gretel, she was 5 yrs old and lived with her mum, her patient dad and her little sister Rosie. Grumpy Gretel was always getting angry.
That afternoon Gretel was riding her bike on the back deck, looking at the views of the open blue sea and listening to the waves crash up onto shore. She yelled out to dad, “Take me for a ride down Allie Way Avenue. Now!” Dad said to wait. Suddenly Gretel turned even grumpier, she stomped her feet and screamed as loud as she could but dad simply ignored Gretel and gave her time to cool down.
Soon dad started getting ready to go for the ride. He packed a drink and a cookie then went to get his helmet. Gretel threw her bike down the stairs and dragged it out onto the front path as her dad followed along behind. They both started to ride down Allie Way Avenue. But as they rode down the little sloping hill, Gretel heard a wonderful noise. She knew what that noise was. It made her ride as fast as her legs could go. She then came to the bottom of the slope and there it was. The Ice Cream Van. Rosie and Gretel both loved ice cream. Gretel thought if she they were good at the beach she could ask dad very politely for an ice cream.
They got off their bikes and sat them down on the grass, then they headed over to the waters edge. They had a drink with a cookie and collected some beautiful seashells to add to their amazing collection. Gretel asked dad if he could push her on one of the swings, but dad decided that Gretel should learn herself. “No Gretel,” replied dad, “How about you try yourself.”
Gretel got extremely grumpy, she stomped her feet, she sat on the swing and yelled, “I want you to push me now!” but her dad ignored her and started to walk back away. Suddenly, very quietly in a sad whisper Gretel spoke, “Dad. I have now learnt a lesson and I need to stop getting angry at you.”
“Thats ok Gretel. You cannot always get your own way.”
Gretel decided to politely ask dad for an ice cream. Dad said, “Sorry Gretel we need to get home.”
“Thats ok,” replied Gretel. She got on her bike and slowly rode off. Gretel knew that if she had gotten angry dad wouldn't ever buy her an ice cream.
“Don’t worry Gretel we will get one another day.”
The next day Gretel headed off to school and came back a different girl. All her anger and grumpiness had gone away. Her mum, dad and little sister Rosie were very proud of her. Now she could do anything and go anywhere without getting angry.
