Congratulations to Meg who was one of our special lucky draw winners. She was rewarded with a neon smiling face light.
As part of homework we have been building lifting machines. This task is sourced from the Engquest website and has pushed us to think about many science concepts. Congratulations to Taj, Thomas and Stuart who all built successful machines. They used different methods to achieve the task. Taj created a scissor lift using water hydraulics. Stuart also used hydraulics but with a different design. Thomas used a pulley system and worked out a ratio that made it easy to lift the weight. Well done boys.
28 students travelled to Moruya High School on Thursday to participate in the Premiers Sporting Challenge. Mogo Public School, Bodalla Public School and Narooma Primary School were also there for the day. The students were divided into groups and participated in 7 different activities. The activities were T-ball, Football(soccer), Hockey, Rugby League, AFL, Golf and skills. The day was run by Moruya High School Year 9 and 10 students and representatives from the different sports. We had to participate in the sport and think about what we were doing so that we can develop ourselves as coaches in these sports. It was a great day and we would like to thank Mr Luke Roberts from Moruya High School for organising the day and inviting us. We hope the day we be held again next year and we can further develop ourselves as coaches. We also have homework to do. We need to go to www.schools.nsw.edu.au/psc and click on the Sport Leadership tab to complete the work. In maths we have been working with the concept of scale. We started with a small map and then transposed it onto a large grid making the scale 3 to 4 times larger than the original. The pictures show the results of our work. Can you tell which is the original map?
Today at school we participated in RED (Read Every Day). We did this by spending 1 hour this morning just simply reading. We used our reading area, our quiet room and anywhere we felt like sitting to read. We read all sorts of things, magazines, books, ebooks and comics. We read in class everyday at the start of the day for 20 minutes.
We have been very busy in Science and Technology over the last term researching, designing, building, testing, modifying and critiquing our catapults. A big thank you to the mums and dads that helped build these catapults. There was mixed degrees of success with only a couple being accurate enough to hit the target. We were all able to discuss our catapult and identify the successful aspects and those that will need further modification. We had a great time designing, building and testing our catapults.
During Term 2 we have been working on creating our own Monopoly boards. We had to design our board, our properties, our Chance and Community Chest cards, money and tokens. We are getting close to finishing them and then we will be able to play!
Literacy activities this week have included Spelling, handwriting, Tellagami on the ipads, publishing our Fairytale news article/working on our Portfolios, Green Reading Box, Quiet Reading in our Reading Corner, Grammar and Punc
On Friday we had an awesome day at the athletics carnival. As you can see by the smiles on our faces we all enjoyed the day. We still don't know the final result but the progressive totals on the day were very close.
